Located on a prominent corner in the historic county seat of Sussex County, New Jersey, Cochran Plaza was conceived as an anchor to the downtown district. Awarded to HQW Architects through a town sponsored design competition, Cochran Plaza became the centerpiece of the area’s urban renewal efforts.
HQW’s award winning building was inspired by the landmark Cochran Hotel that occupied a nearby site along the town’s main thoroughfare. Design strategies included using similar detailing and finish materials derived from historic photos from the County’s archives. The result is a modern building that reflects the character and rich history of the county’s traditional architecture.
